Wines:
Newhaven Sauvignon Blanc 2006 New Zealand $13
The Newhaven 2006 Sauvignon Blanc shows an intense, forward nose with guava, grapefruit zest and honeysuckle aromas. It is a shining example of classic New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Ash Hollow Somanna 2005 Columbia Valley, WA $22
In ancient lore, a divine intoxicant called "Soma" was made as nectar for the gods from the sugary sap of an Ash tree. The Ash tree was known as the "tree of life" from which all good things flow in a cyclical unison with nature. Until the last century the sugary secretions from Ash trees were sold under the name "manna". Owners John and Jacqui combined the two names to form Somanna. The aromas of pears, apples and flowers from the Pinot Gris are balanced by the green grassiness of the Sauvignon Blanc.
Francois Lamarche Hautes-Cotes de Nuits 2004
Burgundy , France
$29
Located in the rugged hills directly behind the famous Cote de Nuits area in France 's Burgundy region, the Hautes-Cotes de Nuits encompasses the vineyard areas of fourteen different villages. This 100% Pinot Noir is aged in oak casks for between 16 and 20 months (between 60 and 100% new oak depending on the vintage), is bottled with no fining and no filtering and is further aged in bottle for 3-4 years. Medium-bodied and satin-textured, it offers gorgeous layers of candied blackberries, stones, and black currants in its fleshy personality.
Belle Vallee 2005 Willamette Valley, Oregon $20
Belle Vallee winery is located in Corvallis , Oregon , the "heart" of the Willamette Valley .  While s ome wineries focus on single vineyards and showcase what that vineyard has to offer, the goal of Belle Vallee is to source grapes from several vineyards (eighteen in total) and blend to create a specific house style that you can count on year in and year out. This 100% Pinot Noir bursts with aromas: black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, pepper and violets. It is silky and elegant!
Random Ridge "Olas" Zinfandel 2002 Sonoma, Ca $16
Random Ridge is located in the Mt. Veeder district and is one of the Napa Valley 's oldest viticultural districts and newest wine appellations. The immensely fragrant nose of spices, pepper, and cassis fruit offers convincing evidence of just how fascinating Zinfandel's aromatic profile can be. In the mouth, this saturated, dark ruby/purple-colored wine exhibits splendid opulence of fruit, plenty of grip and structure, wonderful jammy fruit intensity, and a long, moderately tannic finish.
Durigutti Malbec 2004 Mendoza, Argentina $12
In addition to producing wines under their own label, Hector and Pablo Durigutti also make wines for Fincas Don Martino, Alto Las Hormigas, Saint Polo and Bodegas Banfi! In this not-so-little gem, intense aromas of vanilla, chocolate and coffee explode from the glass; blackberries, dark plums and cassis join nuances of spice and smoke that are characteristic of the variety aged in new French oak. It's a wine of great generosity-rich, ripe and round with excellent length.
Sean Thackrey "Pleiades" XV California $34
This fifteenth edition cult classic includes Syrah, Barbera, Carignane, Mourvedre, Petite Sirah and Viognier, to name but a few. Earthy and fragrant when first released, it will become far more subtle and complex with a bit of age. Incredible!
Spirits:
Suntory Yamazaki 12 year Whiskey $40 (750ml)
In December 1924, Yamazaki Distillery began its production of malt whiskey and five years later Suntory, the first single malt whiskey made in Japan, was sold. Suntory was one of the first Asian companies to specifically covet American celebrities to market their product. In the late 1970s, Akira Kurosawa directed a famous series of commercials featuring American celebrities. One of these featured Francis Ford Coppola, which later inspired Sofia Coppola in the writing of Lost in Translation. Smooth like Macallan, rich like Cragganmore, not very tawny but still packing a bite, Suntory is up there among our current faves.
Beers:
Victory St. Victorious $11.39 (6 pack)
From the tradition started by the monks of St. Francis of Paula in 1634 comes this warming beer of rich heritage. A dark, rich lager of sublime complexity and character, St. Victorious (from Victory Brewery in Downingtown , Pa ) is created from multiple German malts. Long, cold aging mellows the strong temperament of this subtle beer. Celebrate the end of winter with a warming draft of St. Victorious Doppelbock!
Sam Adams LongShot $7.49 (6 pack)
The 2006 Sam Adams American Home brew Contest yielded well over 1,500 entries from all over the country. This is proof positive that homebrewing is thriving! Congratulations to Don Oliver of California and Bruce Stott of Massachusetts for being crowned the 2006 Samuel Adams American Home brew Contest National Champions! Don's Old Ale and Bruce's Dortmunder Export appear in the LongShot mix 6-pack. The third brew in the LongShot package is a Boysenberry Wheat beer created by Ken Smith, winner of the 2006 Samuel Adams employee homebrew competition. Ken's beer was chosen by beer lovers at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival from among the three employee homebrew finalists.
